rtl8192du works. What happens after kernel update?

I have a Belkin USB wifi adapter, F9L1101v2, with a Realtek rtl8192du chipset. It works correctly after installing the driver from GitHub - lwfinger/rtl8192du: Source code for RTL8192DU device, master version. (Thanks, Larry Finger.)

This is on an IBM ThinkPad X41, for both openSUSE 13.1 (i586) KDE Linux 3.11.10-29-default, and openSUSE 13.2 (i586) KDE Linux 3.16.7-21-default.

All it took was

make
su
make install
modprobe 8192du

It continues to work through suspend / resume cycles, and reboots.

My question is what happens after a kernel update? Does this driver get lost? If so, do I just do the

make
su
make install
modprobe 8192du
again?

Thanks,
Howard
