RTL8187B

RTL8187B has worked fine under Ubuntu for at least three years.

I created an OpenSUSE 12.2 GNOME Live USB yesterday. I booted the Live USB, and the card worked fine after two connexion attempts.

Once I booted into the new installation, something was different: there was no networking widget, and the system failed to use the card it had used before.

Ask for more details if needed. Thanks!

Caleb

the output of

/sbin/lspci -nnk

Is kernel-firmware installed?

Try installing rfkill

Post result of:

/usr/sbin/rfkill list

The RTL8187B has worked in the Linux kernel since mid-2008. That means it works
in ALL versions of openSUSE since then. It certainly works in 12.2.

Please post the output of ‘lsusb’, ‘/usr/sbin/iwconfig’, and ‘sudo
…usr/sbin/iwlist scan’.
