Recently (last week or 2), every time I try and open ANYTHING in the filesystem (even stuff in my personal directory), I get a root authorisation login box (“The action you requested needs root privileges, etc, etc”)
Anybody know what the issue is?

Which file system?
Worked it out (sort of)…
Somehow (not to my knowledge ;)) the default link for directories had been changed to “super-user” mode. Am sure I was innocent…
