Well, I just updated TW and it messed with everything. Thunderbird threw out my theme and even with new “light” themes the text area is dark. Kate has these awful icons on the tabs that serve no purpose and I can’t find a way to get rid of them. My wallpaper reverted to system default. This is why i really do not like to update any of my systems, I usually disable any updates once i get things set the way i like but I got the idea that maybe an update would fix some of my problems with dual monitors so i updated, now I really really wish i had not.
I use EXT4 so is there a way to roll back or update TW to a previous version?
Can’t roll back if you do not have BTRFS and snapper!!!
If you don’t like updating why TW???
I originally installed TW from scratch and let it update then at that point i started configuring and turned off further updates. I need stability and no changing stuff underneath. I run a lot of specialized software(no gaming or **** like that) and changes cause no end of headaches. I chose TW because it was the latest and greatest, and made a good starting point. I stick with EXT4 because I wasn’t fully sold on BTRFS as it was not fully matured at that time. Maybe next time i will use BTRFS, I liked EXT4 because I knew i could count on it in any situation and had lots of experience with it.
I do regular backups using my own software so i may try a fake regress by restoring a backup, if it screws the pooch well, there is my opportunity to try out BTRFS and go from there
And even Leap requires patches (updates) for securirity and severe bugs, but they are of course not like TW, which will deliver newer versions of software packages (to keep it “latest and greatest”).
Also I guess that not installing new snapshots of TW during a long time will bring you into troubles. When you love “latest and greatest” then stick to it and use TW, but properly upgrade it every week or so with zypper dup.
When you want a stable system that does not have a new version of your applications, with possibly a changed user interface that will annoy you, then use Leap.
Yea, maybe i will install leap 154, or should i wait for 15.5?
And why do you want to wait for Leap 15.5? Release is planned for June 2023…
BTW the 4 stars in my last post, inserted by the site are the initials for Cut Rate Auto Parts ( a real store too, they even have bumper stickers)
Better refrain from such language. It is definitely against the T&C of our forums.
Sorry for butting in but,
One way to go back to a previous install is :-
Disable the following repos’s
https://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/non-oss
https://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss/
then add the following repos's
https://download.opensuse.org/history/XXXXXXXX/tumbleweed/repo/non-oss/
https://download.opensuse.org/history/XXXXXXXX/tumbleweed/repo/oss/
where “XXXXXXXX” is the date needed to go back to.
the history repo gives about the last month of installs
when it become necessary to go to the latest version just reverse the above.
