right click uninstall link in plasma desktop doesn't work opensuse?

I go through the menu and see something I don’t want installed, I right click and choose 'uninstall ’ and it shows error every time that file cant be found…

does this option to uninstall not work?

So first, tell us what openSUSE version you have and if this is the default KDE desktop? Normally you use the YaST / Software / Software Management application or Zypper to install or uninstall applications. Applications come inside of Packages and normally you must remove the package to get rrid of its applications. Further, what is so troubling to you that you feel the need to uninstall it? Are you running out of disk space? Does the application not work? Do you feel you are kind of lost using openSUSE and or Linux in general? We need more information to help you out of this situation you have found yourself in. For help in using Zypper to add/remove applications, have a look at my blog post here:

Zypper Command - Zypper Package Management Menu System - Version 2.00 - Blogs - openSUSE Forums

Thank You,

what openSUSE version you have

12.3 with all the updates till now…with default KDE desktop

Yes…I know. I know how to use that.

well …I try out stuff through the Yast to see if its something I would like to use…and IF Its not really all that what I need…then usually I uninstall it…

kind of lost using openSUSE and or Linux in general?

Im new to the Linux OpenSuse experience for sure, like a couple of months now…I’m learning as I go…usually if i have questions …I do ask…
like now…about the uninstall…

See… the reason I ask is cause the option IS available on my right click to an application using the application launcher, I’m sure its available for anyone who is using the a KDE desktop like me through OpenSuse…
but that available option to Uninstall is not doing any uninstalling…

maybe its just me or somthing in my settings? a simple flip of a setting or …I mean I can ignore it and go through the Yast as expected to handle the uninstalling…

right click to uninstall is not available on my KDE (but it is a bit
older than yours)…

maybe the next release of KDE won’t have it (again) or maybe it is
patched to work (again, if it ever did on openSUSE…it may have
worked on Mint or Red Hat or or or or or )

so, you could always check bugzilla to see if it is already logged as
not working, and if not submit your bug to http://tinyurl.com/nzhq7j

but WAIT!! i think before you write a bug you should tell your KDE
version and then get someone with the same software to confirm that
the uninstall is not working (it could, as you note, just be a
problem with your settings…)

I NEVER use Uninstall from the KDE menu and suggest you stick with YaST or Zypper. I will research the command, but it may be to remove the menu entry and not the package that installed it. The menu is application centric while YaST and Zypper are Package Centric and a Package is much more than a single application menu. That is why it fails I would imagine if that was its purpose. And, unless a new program ran me out of disk space or caused a system problem, I seldom remove such applications, but just ignore them.

Thank You,

I also have opensuse 12.3 with the default KDE desktop with all the updates
installed.
And i do not have a uninstall option in my menus, and i can’t remember ever
having it either.

yes, what version of KDE do you have installed?
The current default version of KDE for openSUSE 12.3 (4.10.5) has no right-click uninstall option (only remove from favourites)
Install / Uninstall in openSUSE is usually best handled through yast.

Oh . . . . . I see.
If you use (have installed) apper then there is an option in the menu to right click and uninstall.

The short answer to your original question would be - no, this doesn’t work in openSUSE.

I don’t have apper (and never have used it) so didn’t realise that menu entry was there for those that do use it.
