Return to Castle Wolfenstein - sound is full of static.

I am running openSuSE 11 and KDE 4.1 beta 2. I am currently running RtCW with the sdl sound hack script (sound doesn’t work otherwise). However, whenever I play the game, the sound is full of static. When I quit, every application dealing with sound also becomes staticy. Sometimes it effects non-audio applications as well! For example, mousing over the items in the task manager in the KDE panel and triggering the animation also causes static to come out of the speakers.
If I restart the sound system or reboot, every audio application is fine again.

Anyone know what’s going on?

Okay I just updated KDE to 4.0.84 and oddly the sound has fixed itself.
