retrieve root password

I know it sounds funny, but by not using yast for so long I forgot my root password. can I retrieve it without having to reinstall my whole system?
I like it how it is now.
I am guessing the answer will be no, but thanks anyway.

BTW, I doubt that any of the methods found will enable you to “retrieve your root password”. At the most they you will be able to set a new root password (which you then of course should not forget).

The short answer is “no”. The long answer is that you can change the root password to something that you know – assuming that you have physical access to the machine and can boot a live CD or USB.

So, follow the suggestion from Carlos and search the web for answers.

Yes, you are right.

You always can use init=/bin/sh which will bypass any password request and just give you shell immediately.

thanks will try a live cd and if unsuccesful will wait for the 13.2 ;):good:

Recommend instead of the above search you simply do a search for a botable ISO dedicated to admin/root password recovery/reset.

With a dedicated ISO, you shouldn’t have to learn how it works, just boot to it, point to your HDD and select your options.
Should take longer to d/l and burn than getting the desired result.

The google search I suggested gives as first hit a link to the official
openSUSE instructions for root’s password reset.
