Retracted kernel update

Hello everybody,

When I start Yast Software Management, it opens with the tab “Package Classification” -> Retracted Installed Packages -> kernel 5.3.18-150300.59.81.1 (kernel, modules and optional modules)

Is there something I’m supposed to do? The system seems to work fine with kernel 5.3.18-150300.59.81.1.

Thanks,
Teuniz

Thank you!

If your system is working well, then you don’t need to do anything. But you will continue to see that “retracted” message when you start Yast. It you uninstall that kernel, you should stop seeing the message.

Some people are having serious problems with that kernel, but that seems to be hardware dependent.

My own plan is to do nothing until the next kernel arrives. And at that time, I will uninstall the retracted kernel.

And if I forgot to do that, The kernel will be automatically upgraded or I will have to do it by hand?

That will happen automatically when there’s a new kernel.

Typically it takes two kernel updates. After the first, you will start using the new kernel instead of the retracted kernel. After the second, the bad kernel will be gone due to the “purge-kernels” service.
