I use 64bit suse 11.3/gnome on Lenovo ThinkPad SL510. The problem is that the system kinda fails after resume from hibernation to disk. After wake I see the chameleon and then, just when the desktop has to appear, all what I see is the whole screen of coloured noise, just like on TV with no antenna, but my noise is static. When I move mice, I ain’t see the cursor, but a square area of noise, different from the background.
Does anyone has it too?
What’s wrong?
The bug appeared already after installation, on “clean” system - I tried to hibernate it kinda few hours ofter setup, just for fun :).
Have you tried updating your system?

What type of video card is in use in this system? Some video drivers
don’t like suspend/resume in any shape for some reason.

Very possible. This desktop machine I’m at now crashes if I’m using the
opensource nv driver (11.2). I have to use the proprietary one.
The first thing I would do is test hibernation in runlevel 3, after
disabling both splash screens (kernel boot and hibernation).

Mobility Radeon HD 4500, driver - according to Hardware Information, “radeon”
How to do the test?
I have the SL510 with intel onboard graphics. With 11.3 Gnome or KDE, Hibernation works perfectly (but suspend to ram never wakes successfully).
Hibernation requires a suitably sized linux swap partition in order to work. Do you have one?

Switch to runlevel 3. Use command “pm-hibernate”.
Previously remove splash screens (splash=verbose in kernel boot line in
grub/menu.lst) and:
/etc/suspend.conf:
splash = n
