Restoring GRUB to a LVM encrypted computer.

Hi, I am running OpenSUSE 11.3 GNOME, and I recently reinstalled Windows, and it overwrote GRUB. I only have an Ubuntu LiveCD (I installed with the OpenSUSE DVD), how do I get GRUB back? Note that the Ubuntu LiveCD doesn’t recognize the LVM Encrypted partition, so I can’t mount it.
Thanks in advance.

Hi there, even if you have an lvm encrypted partition, i think there should be a mountable boot device?
(or does it now work? booting from an encrypted lvm device – i hope not
so, it should work if you boot from any livecd, switch to the console, start grub and install it to the mbr of your
first disk

grub> root (hd0,0) (to set root partition, hd0,0 means first disk at first controller)
grub> setup (hd0) (installs grub to the mbr)
grub> quit

hope it helps

Another way I could suggest is to try’s EasyBCD bootloader with NeoGRUB (if you’re running Vista/Win7) or GRUB4DOS (if you’re running Xp or older windows version)…

You could try to chainload the boot record present on the partition with /boot from it to get into openSUSE… Then you could re-install GRUB on MBR…
