Restoring default graphics drivers

Hello,

I’ve lost my GUI while attempting to install the latest ATI proprietary driver. I followed their instructions on how to uninstall it but it didn’t give me my GUI back. How do I get back to the default drivers that came with my installation? I have a Radeon 3850.

Booting into safe mode doesn’t give me a GUI.

I want to try to reinstall the ATI proprietary drivers eventually. I have them on the hard drive, but I have had no luck installing them using the CLI so far. Thank you.

well this is a very common problem and if you search through the postings you’ll find info on what to do. I know that i had the problem in init3 you have to run sax2 -m 0=VGA (i’m not sure about VGA) so find what is the correct one and then run startx which will give you a basic GUI.
good luck!

the command is

sax2 -m 0=vesa

Not VGA

I install my graphics card drivers from the repositories now. Works
like installing anything else when i do this.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions. I got it working using
sax2 -m 0=vesa command. Reinstalled the graphics driver properly and it all works again.
