respawning too fast when installing

Installing 11.2 from KDE LiveCD on an IBM ThinkCenter with 3.2Gb CPU and 1Gb RAM. Ubuntu 9.04 on first two partitions.
I go through the configuration, click to ‘install’: Install display bars remain blank. After 2-3 minutes, black screen with scroll of attempted installation pieces and the error message: “Respawning too fast. Disabled for 5 min.” Freeze.

Other posts mention problem with init. But this is happening with the install so not able to address that. No apparent md5chksum for LiveCDs. No mention of this problem in installation help guide. Does anyone know how to deal with this? If you need more info, I will provide. Though it seems this is not an unusual problem when booting an installed system, there’s no mention of it happening during installation.

Ever get this working? I’m running into the same issue with the 11.2 Gnome Live CD on an HP Proliant DL320 G2.

I eventually downloaded 11.1 and was able to install that w/o issue on the same machine.

I think the problem could have something to do with the CD (experienced the same problem with ubuntu live cd’s, dvd worked well). Try burning the CD at a slower speed. If all else fails try the DVD, it should work.

The DVD would have been my first choice, but the server only has a CD drive. Steps I followed:

  1. Tried to boot off 11.2, cannot (safe mode(s) don’t help)
  2. Tried to boot Ubuntu 9.10 live CD and was able to boot with no issue

I tried Ubuntu because I had the CD handy. Once I verified Ubuntu work I went out and download opensuse 11.1 and installed it. I had been attempting to prep the server offline, but at this point I think I’m going to leave 11.1 on it until I can get it on the network and then attempt to move to 11.2 through zypper.

I ended up exporting the DVD from a working server and then booting off the Net install CD when I finally got the server racked. Net install worked fine.

I am having the exact same issue with an HP Proliant DL320 G2. No DVD drive. I tried the net install too but no luck.

I installed suse 11.2 gnome and it seemed to go smoothly until time came to reboot. Error msg: “installation failed, do you want to start again?” A ‘yes’ selection quickly hung. A ‘no’ managed to take me to a desktop and I was able to log out and log in without trouble. Except…I couldn’t connect to ISP. Of course I went into Yast and to the Network section and selected ‘DSL’ as that is my connection device. It began to go through a list of tasks and halfway through it froze. No solution except to turn off the machine.
Suse is so pretty and I did use it in the early days, but I’ve had nothing but grief when trying to install and use it now. I even went online and bought a copy from a French outfit who sent a DVD that turned out to be ‘broken’, i.e., many errors when checking media. They kindly sent a replacement that was also faulty. I tried it on several machines. So what gives Suse?? I finally have it up and running after many computing acrobatics. But what the hey…
