Resolution Problems

First off, I’m a little confused, the 11.1 that just came out, is that a stable release version or a beta?

Back to the issue, um, after I did a full install of opensuse 11.1 with KDE4 4.1, it set my resolution to 1280x1024 as default, so I went to change it to the proper 1920x1200, I hit apply, and the screen turned black, except towards the top, there is a very thin line going across the screen. It does the same for 1600x1200.

Also I used to have opensuse 11, and I noticed that it had like a “nv” driver nname under my display info, now it has “Mesa Project, Software Rasterizer, 2.1 Mesa 7.2”

I’m running a Dell 24" widescreen monitor with an nvidia evga 8800 gtx video card.

Help is greatly appreciated.

I’m not familiar enough with the graphics setup you have to help much,
but yes, 11.1 is now officially released.

Good luck.

It’s at 1280x1024 at the moment. I want to go to 1920x1200, and it wont. I’m kind of leaning towards grabbing different drivers, seeing if that may help, just wanted to get some feedback before I started to mess around, I’m kind of new at this.

Ok, I just installed the nvidia drivers from your site as opposed to the one that the DVD installed from NVIDIA - openSUSE.

Now it says the vendor is Nvidia corp, and it’s 2.1.2 Nvidia 177.82, and also recognizes it’s a Geforce 8800 GTX.

This is where it gets confusing, why is it that the highest resolution it will allow me to chose is only 1280x1024??

Also, just to make sure, since I have a nvidia 8800gtx from evga, I should be picking the driver off that website that says “For all new NVIDIA cards (Geforce 6 and newer)”, right?

To be honest, I think it’s having a hardtime recognizing my monitor. When I go into the YaST control venter, it picks up a completly different monitor, even after I change and save the proper settings…

…nvm, I figured it out
