Resolution problem when attaching a Sony 32" HD Ready LCD TV

Hi.

I am trying to use my Sony 32" HD Ready LCD TV as a secondary (or primary) screen on my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 820 with nVidia graphics (proprietary drivers installed via openSUSE repos). I do not have any problem attaching it through VGA, the desktop displays nicely but with totally wrong resolution for the TV.

No matter what I do, I fail to configure the right resolution for the TV, which I think should be 1280 x 720. I have tried both KDE Personal Settings and nVidias “nVidia X Server Settings”. I did this yesterday, now I cannot remember if I even had the option 1280 x 720 in either of the two tools I tried, I think I did not.

Anybody got any ideas? My system is openSUSE 11.3, KDE 4.4.4, nVidia driver 260.19.29.

I found the following thread on how to add your preferred settings in the Xorg.conf file:

Setting screen resolution in Suse 11.3

I would go into the KDE menu / Personnel Settings / Display / Size and Orientation and make sure you know what the name of each display is called (like default or LDVS or what ever name it has). You need to look up your Sony 32" and KNOW what resolution it is supposed to be set for. Then, knowing it’s name and it’s resolution, you can set it’s default setup in the Xorg.conf file.

Thank You,

Thanks a lot for your answer, this was exactly what I needed.

 Regards, Micke.
