Resize Device

Is it possible to resize a Linux Native partition with mount point of “/”?

When I try to unmount the device it tells me that it is busy.

use either a livecd,Gparted or partimage. you cannot resize a drive with the system running, especially root’s partition

I would suggest using SystemRescueCD as it contains several useful tools beyond Gparted and can be stuck in a cd case for future hard drive problems. If you just want to resize the partition then you can use the Gparted LiveCD directly.

Good Luck

Depends on what version of SUSE you are running, what filesystem, etc.
It is possible to resize /. But only LARGER. Shrinking does mean
booting a rescue CD (for example, CD1 of your favorite SUSE, boot rescue)
and doing the shrinking with the device offline.

Shrinking isn’t bad if the filesystem is on a logical volume.
You resize the filesystem, resize the LV and then grow the
filesystem back up to fill the tiny “safety” gap (hope you
left one!).
