Rescue mode

Lately, I have had some problems with my openSUSE 12.2 becoming unstable and have tried booting in Rescue Mode. When I do that it asks me for rescue id, and I am not sure what it wants. There’s one user, me, and I am also root. I have tried root plus, when it asks, the appropriate password but it rejects that. For good measure, I have also tried my userid plus password but it rejects that too, of course.

What does it then expect from to continue with the rescue mode?

Thank you for your help, cheers,

Wouldn’t it be better to work with your 12.2 install or is it actually unbootable?

Sorry, but that is too vague. Problems can present with symptoms and error messages. Are there any in your case? What Rescue Mode? Grub?

Do you mean boot from DVD, then select “rescue”? Just enter ‘root’,
password is empty.

Do you mean booting from your hard disk, then selecting “failsafe” (not
rescue)? Then enter ‘root’ and root’s password.
