Requiring password on bootup, fingerprint logon

Hi guys,

I’ve finally made the move of getting rid of Windows Vista on my HP 8510w laptop and installing openSUSE 11.4. I first installed Ubuntu, but IMHO nothing comes close to openSUSE

Everything is working fine, it even detected the fingerprint reading pad.

I have two questions though and I can’t find the answer on the web.

  1. How do I require the user to type a password with logon?
  2. If I enable the fingerprint reader, it does not allow me to log on using only the password - any ideas?

Thank you in advance for any help in this regard.

Disable Auto-Login

Thank you!

Now I just need to figure out the fingerprint reader

Using OpenSuse 12.2 RC2. Have same problem, when fingerprint enabled can’t log in with password, only fingerprint. Auto-Login is already disabled. Suggestions?

when fingerprint enabled can’t log in with password, only fingerprint

Maybe I don’t understand
But are you saying you want to login with both?

for caf – CAUTION: there are now TWO questioners in this single thread.

for dtillberg: all questions/reports/discussions on pre-release software

Sorry to tell you this is a quite old bug which is still not fixed in OpenSuse 12.2 - see:
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=673860

Using a ThinkPad X61 tablet, it’s still not fixed in opensuse 12.3 either, though at least in 12.3 don’t have to click OK to use fingerprint.
