Requiring CD 1:

I downloaded the 11.2 install DVD the first day it was available and just tried to install it a few minutes ago. I get to the install screen just fine, but soon after I choose English, it starts asking for CD 1. I’ve been told that I can install on a USB flash drive and this is what I am trying to do, but I never get that far.

Did you run the media check

To be honest, I thought is was Ok since it booted, but I’ll do that next. I’m downloading a LiveCD right now.

No errors found. I will continue with the LiveCD for now and try the full install again later.

You can install from the Live CD, it just doesn’t install as much at first, but later loads of stuff will be installed via the online repo’s, particularly as you add packages in Software Management that you want, it will bring in stuff by requirement/dependency

When you get the “Insert CD 1” message just hit OK and the install should continue. This is an error in the install script on the DVD, which I think was not changed from the Multi CD version.

Ok, thank you. I’ll give that a try.

Nope! After no less than 30 requests for CD1, I expanded the error and it said that it cannot find the ‘Content’ directory. I was able to install from the LiveCD, but on reboot it no longer recognizes the flash drive as bootable. I prefer Suse over all of the other distributions, but it has always been a pain to get running.

It’s a bug in the installer message. These days there are no multi-CD sets, so the only CD1 is the DVD itself. It installs fine if you continue to use the DVD. But make sure your DVD has no errors, if there are any read errors, it might be regarded as not CD1. (Did you do a media check first thing?)

If you like, please report this “CD1” message bug at bugzilla.novell.com. Only if we bring to light these little issues that old-timers don’t even notice because they are so used to it, can the distro improve.

Me too Ken, I installed fine from the LiveCD on a USB key, I now need a “repair” option as my GRUB has got confused (!) There is no repair option on the liveCD (Why not??), So I made a usb of the net install mini iso…
It boots then asks for Insert CD1, no amount of bashing at the keyboard persuades it to continue. :frowning:

When it asks for cd1 choose the back or exit option. This will take you back to the install menu. Choose to install and then choose the medium - hdd if you are installing from usb.
It then asks for the location (gives a ist of the drives on the pc) Choose the correct drive.
When it asks for the install directory, just enter slash (/) for the install directory.

@whych
I do not wish to install, I need the repair install option…

I don’t have a copy of either on usb/cd at the moment. I know the 11.1 versions gave a repair option and I am sure the full dvd gives a repair option as well.
I will try my live gnome and see if it gives the otoption and get back.

TY, my usb is only 1Gb, so the DVD will not fit. I am wary of using any 11.1 to repair, as it will not know about or how to deal with ext4?

Just tried the live gnome and like you say, no repair option. Seems they have left the option out, which makes sense if you want to check installed software.
Does the net install give a repair option?
What do you need to do that you need a repair option?

Here is my problem:

Grub gone wrong! - openSUSE Forums

I also have the same problem,

I downloaded the DVD 32bit version, then burned it at the lowest speed (4x), with the “VERIFY” OPTION so at the end all was OK and successful.

I then booted, and started the Installation, it went to select language and keyboard, then after that and a filled up of a green slide bar, it went to 80% and then it was doing something about a file manager, and that’s when It asked me for CD1, I click on skip, and that brings a box saying continue or exit. if you click on continue it goes through the same loop,

if you click on exit it will abort the installation.

By the way, the first thing I did before clicking on installation, was to check the media for errors, it came out clean.
