Please consider adding the optional removal button to forum adverts (e.g. current openSUSE Summit), as provided for recent outage alerts where the case for it is possibly less obvious.
On a 1366x768 notebook display, the size of those event adverts is particularly intrusive, especially if it’s going to be there for several weeks rather than just a few days.
Unless it’s a technical issue, I doubt any participation would be lost by including the option.

I think those are handled differently (as the banner is part of the
‘advertising’ functionality) than the announcements (which are handled as
part of the “announcements” manager), but I’ll pass the suggestion along.
The modification, subsequently made yesterday evening (GMT), seems to be working well. This morning I tested it with a fresh login on another system, and also the restored session from yesterday. The button only shows after the first login, and once used the removal of advert persists.
