request for firmware file 'iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode' failed [INTEL 5300 AGN] [OPENSUSE 11.2]

After an Update in early May (7th??) my wireless isn’t working anymore. After digging in the log files I found in /var/log/messages :

kernel: 68.067407] iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: request for firmware file ‘iwlwifi-5000-2.ucode’ failed.
kernel: 128.068398] iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: request for firmware file ‘iwlwifi-5000-1.ucode’ failed.
kernel: 128.068424] iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: no suitable firmware found!
kernel: 128.069345] iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: PCI INT A disabled

Both files (“iwlwifi-5000-1.ucode” and “iwlwifi-5000-3.ucode” are available in /lib/firmware)

I searched different forums without any solution (the problem might be related to Suddenly No Wireless Network Card - openSUSE Forums ???)

The card is correctly identified during boot:
<6> 8.030309] iwlagn: Intel(R) Wireless WiFi Link AGN driver for Linux, in-tree:d
<6> 8.030312] iwlagn: Copyright(c) 2003-2010 Intel Corporation

<6> 8.032220] iwlagn 0000:0c:00.0: Detected Intel(R) Ultimate N WiFi Link 5300 AGN, REV=0x24

Any ideas what to try?

Hi
The solution for the SLED user was to rollback.

So, did you upgrade the kernel as well?

Hi,

I had the same problem. I have an “Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN [Shiloh] Network Connection” and since an update in April/May the NetworkManager was unable to find and connect the WLAN.

I deleted the packages “compat-wireless-kmp-default” and “compat-wireless-kmp-desktop”. Now the NetworkManager is able to use the WLAN card again.

By the way: thanks for all the entries in this forum which lead me the right way!

Does that mean that the driver in the kernel works?

Yes, the driver in the kernel works.
