Repository Unknown in KDE Discover & Glitchy Application Window Movement

This is the point which i meant with “asus is redundant”. This parameters are added automatically by the drivers. You don’t need to add them. Only remove “nomodeset”.

Well I ran into a wall trying to do the first 2 steps on installing ascutl:

Adding the repository went smoothly, but trying to do sudo zypper rm tlpyielded:

Reading installed packages...
'tlp' not found in package names. Trying capabilities.
No provider of 'tlp' found.
Resolving package dependencies...
Nothing to do.

and running sudo zypper in asusctl yielded:

Refreshing service 'NVIDIA'.
Refreshing service 'openSUSE'.
Retrieving repository 'asus-linux' metadata .................................................................................[error]
Repository 'asus-linux' is invalid.
[asus-linux|https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/luke_nukem:/asus/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/] Failed to retrieve new repository metadata.

Please check if the URIs defined for this repository are pointing to a valid repository.
Warning: Skipping repository 'asus-linux' because of the above error.

Went to the gitlab and found the repo link, and I may be new to Linux as a whole, but I don’t think the repo should be empty?

Look here :< Linux for ROG Notebooks then down to Asus-Linux Software section. Need to add that particular repository.

But you did actually notice that this is the exact repo which was added by @ExesCarnival0891 ? No? Have a look at the provided terminal output.

It is a external home repository and the user seems to have abondoned the project and does no longer provide any packages. That is why it is empty.

hui thanks for pointing that out.

Hi, so you want a dangerous life with ROG? My advice is to sort out the basic setting first, then you may add ASUS specific packages (spoiler: they are not going to do much).
To change boot options the easiest way is:

  • fire up YaST-Bootloader
  • go to the Kernel Parameters Tab
  • Edit the Optional Kernel Command Line Parameter
  • hit OK to save and regenerate GRUB.

I still think that you might be better off by installing and enabling switcherooctl according to this Switcheroo_Control.
Give it a try, you may easily revert if you find it of no use (I doubt it, see also @malcolmlewis advice above).
Then if you insist in installing ROG specific stuff you may find supergfxctlin the OSS repo and asusctlby following the steps outlined here.
As usual, ask here if you need help (and take time zones into consideration  ).

Well I feel like this thread has run its course regard what it originally was supposed to solve. I am not sure what solved the KDE Discover issue, but regarding Glitchy Application Window Movement OrsoBruno’s Solution of removing nomodeset from the boot command line worked. I marked this as the solution. For permanently removing nomodeset from boot options, follow panorain’s Solution or OrsoBruno’s.

For more talk regard ASUS ROG Laptops and getting similar software to configure your system like you can on windows the Armoury Crate or GHelper, I created a new thread focused on that.
