repository questions

I have 11.2 running in virtual machine and wait to replace my current 11.1 with 11.2 until all packages I need are in the repos. One of them is the latest stable amarok 2.2. Today, there still is no amarok package in packman repo. Will it ever be put in packman at all?

If not, what is the recommended repo to install amarok 2.2? I only want a stable version, thus no factory repos. I tried the KDE:43/openSUSE_11.2 repo, but this version of amarok is highly unstable and can’t even build my collection so it’s unusable. It also wants to update kdelibs, etc which I do not like from this kind of repo. I only trust the opensuse repos and packman.

And why is packman not building any amarok packages anyways? In all previous opensuse versions, this was the only additional repo I added. With 11.2 this no longer seems possible, a change I do not like at all.

Another strange thing I noticed with 11.1 is that there still is no update for firefox 3.5 in the default opensuse update repo’s. Why exactly is this? Shouldn’t this update repo include ALL security fixes? I don’t want to add an extra mozilla repo, with possible unstable packages…

No Packman version AFAIK.
kde43 is brilliant

But other options
Software.openSUSE.org

As far as I can tell, only unstable factory repos have amarok 2.2 packages… And KDE:43/openSUSE_11.2’s version of amarok is messed up. It crashes all the time… I really hope packman builds an amarok package soon!

err…
No it doesn’t

FYI kde43 is not an Unstable Repo. Where are you getting this info?

My personal experience tells me it is… It crashes, doesn’t build my collection and dragging music files towards playlists doesn’t work either… These mp3’s play just fine in kaffeine. I really don’t understand what is going on with amarok in 11.2.
Also tried installing amarok 1.4 on 11.2. It doesn’t crash, but it doesn’t play any audio as well and doesn’t build my collection.

Note: in 11.2 RC1 this was no problem at all, amarok 2.2 was running fine…

It crashes, doesn’t build my collection and dragging music files towards playlists doesn’t work

All work perfectly

amarok-2.2.1-45.2.i586

kde4-config -v
Qt: 4.5.3
KDE: 4.3.3 (KDE 4.3.3) “release 3”
kde4-config: 1.0

I suggest you have other issues. Run amarok from the terminal and keep an eye on output there when it crashes

Ok I did a complete reinstall and now it works:). Maybe it didn’t work because I didn’t format my home partition from previous install…

That depends but it’s possible. You should have just deleted or re-named all the amarok settings and profile folders in hidden .kde4

.kde4/share/apps/amarok
.kde4/share/config/amarok-appletsrc
.kde4/share/config/amarok_homerc
.kde4/share/config/amarokrc

Aha I only deleted .kde4/share/apps/amarok folder… Forgot about the config/*. Thx for the help!

No worries.
I can’t recall ever needing to re-install for an issue like this, it’s just not the way in Linux.
Happy you sorted it though;)

Well if you feel you have too many issues with the one for 11.2 you could use a 11.1 repository for it.
I use some 11.1 repos on my system, its not the best Idea if you are after video card drivers but for software it seems like a good idea until stuff is packaged for 11.2
