Hi
I have 12.1. Yesterday i added two more repositories, the packman essentials and mulimedia using zypper.
Then i searched using zypper for a program and i got a message saying it could not find the device i used to install,
thats fine, because it was a usb stick, so i skipped it and then i got these messages
Retrieving repository ‘packman essentials’ metadata (error)
Retrieving repository is invalid
vital metadata not found at url …/suse/inode.at/openSUSE12.1
Disabling repository ‘packman essentials’ because of above error
This was repeated for the packman multimedia. Basically I got nothing
As always thank you for your help
here is what uou requested chief_sealth, thanks

Hi
I have not been able to log into this forum in the past few days.
I have managed to get the repositories working, but not very well.
I started downloading a file and regularly during the download this would happen
Download(Curl) error for 'http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/12.1/repo/oss/content':
Error code: Connection failed
Error message: Resolving host timed out: download.opensuse.og
Each time asking me to Abort, Retry, Ignore
Thanks

But you can use a browser and look at those repos, for Eg:
Index of /distribution/12.1/repo/oss
Is browsing ok generally? I note your forum issue, but we have issues ATM.
You are in Down Under? Correct?
You could try mirrors openSUSE Download Mirrors - 12.1
Disable all current repos and try adding one in local (more local) to you.
A DNS lookup on your IP brought all kind of errors BTW
Browsing is OK
I understand that openSUSE redirect to a mirror closer to the country your in, anyway.
I am interested in the DNS lookup, would’nt that be my ISP rather than my computer. I can’t see
what i can do about it, I am no network guru
Thank you

Correct.
Google offers free DNS that you could try:
8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
I’m no network guru either
When you start making changes to like this, make a note/copy/backup of the original.
Applying the google DNS can be done in openSUSE or perhaps even better, in your router (But I’m not sure)
