Whenever I open software repositories or management via YaST I get an error message about a Repository initialization error

The repos seem to work and I can install software

What did I do wrong? And how do I fix it?

Thank you in advance!

Did you try removing them and adding them again, perhaps use a mirror nearer to you
openSUSE Download Mirrors - 11.3

Yes I did

I moved it too servers in South Africa.

The one is ftp.up.ac.za if I am not mistaken.
thanks

I have edited the above
Look carefully how I have put them all to Yes | Yes in the enable/refresh
Except the cd and dvd (not sure why you have both) #3 and 5 they are both No | No

I changed the enable/refresh to yes/yes as you suggested except for 3,5,9 as per above
Still no change

Same error as before

There’s something wrong with one of the URLs. In the post, click the URL for ‘nvidia’ and you will see that it errors out, due to a “http://http://” sequence. Remove the error causing repo, and re-add with correct data.

Nvidia should be

ftp://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.3

Well spotted @knurpht

thanks I fixed the nvidia one but still get the same
problem

Basically nothing changed!

What do I do next?

Thank you!

Disable the top 2 cd and dvd

Now remove: oss, non-oss, updates, packman

Close Yast when done.

Now open a terminal and use your mouse to copy and paste the following code in a su - terminal: one at a time and hit enter

zypper ar -f http://opensuse.mirror.ac.za/opensuse/distribution/11.3/repo/oss/ oss
zypper ar -f http://opensuse.mirror.ac.za/opensuse/distribution/11.3/repo/non-oss/ non-oss
zypper ar -f http://opensuse.mirror.ac.za/opensuse/update/11.3/ updates
zypper ar -f http://packman.unixheads.com/suse/11.3/ packman

then do

zypper ref

accept keys if asked

I did that

But still get errors on
oss
non oss
updates
packman
and again on non oss

So…???

Caf please explain why we tried to add the repos via the terminal?

Thanks.

(Ps the repos “work” when I download packages)

Do I re-enable the dvd and cd?

I just wanted to to try redoing them as http rather than your ftp

try this as su:

zypper clean --all

You don’t need the cd or dvd enabled if you can download via the web OK and certainly you wouldn’t want them set like yours at a higher priority.

That doesnt help either!
Next?

I gave the dvd a higher priority because I have such a slow www connection.

Thanks

I seem to have found a solution for this problem, or at least it was provided via private message

After you go into YaST then repositories, near the top right corner should be a pulled down menu titled “view”.

My pull down menu has “all repositories” and “all services”. I selected services and deleted each service entry. I had 4 entries, and that is how many times I would get the error popups. They were all for packman.

I have no idea what they do there or how they even got in there but so far nothing bad has happened to my computer after taking out those packman service entries.

Hopefully something as simple as this is what is giving you your errors.

I did not delete the services but just disabled them.

Can someone please explain what I did? Why it worked and if it was a real solution or not?

Thanks

Same thing is happening to me. Started yesterday, after updater load some kernel patches.

Hi

I can confirm that what I did worked, but I do not really know what I did, so at least consider it as an interim solution.

I can also confirm the issue with 11.3 updates repository.
