Repositories

Which Repositories should be listed as “enabled” (and by enabled it means they will automatically notify you of updates correct?) in software management? I seem to have 20 or so repositories listed. Do I need all of these? Or should I just go with the Suse Stable 11 repositories? Because I seem to be notified of updates on things that are irreleveant, not major changes etc.

Thanks,

open a terminal and do

post your list here and although we will likely be able to work it out, tell us if you use gnome, kde4, kde3 or a combo of them.

It’s not necessary to get updates for all repo’s - true. The essential is ‘updates’
But many do want new features from other repo’s. You have to decide if Stability is a MUST. In which case, you want to keep a minimum enabled. You can generally maintain that stability and get new features by having stable build service repo’s enabled too.

For some. Bandwidth may be an issue. Cable and ADSL is not available everywhere and some still use dialup, so only security updates would be wanted here probably.

By default, opensuse notifies you about security patches only.

If you want to be notified on other applications’ updates,

On 11.0:
Right click updater applet in system tray –> Configure Applet –> check “Show available upgrades when backend provides them”

On 11.1:
First install “kde4-kupdateapplet-zypp”, then right click on updater applet –> Configure Applet –> select “ZYpp Plugin” as Backend –> check “Show available upgrades when backend provides them”

The reason I ask this question is that I have had 2 updates that won’t install, “Fileshareset” and “kdenetwork3-InstantMessenger” even if I click install they stick around. I thought maybe I am receiving every little update done and there was a way to disable that.

DON’T try and install those. It’s a bug.

This OS 11.0 yes? I can’t recall if there was a fix or other workaround. As I recall is was near to 11.1 release when this started. I never encountered it because I don’t use the updater applet, I only do updates via software management.

I think you can mark them as taboo / never install.

I just got an update of libzypp on 11.0 and the privious updates that were stuck (fileshareset and another one) now installed after libzypp got updated. So it’s fixed now  been waiting for this for months

There you have it.

You should be fine if you get the libzypp update first. (microchip8 thanks for that.)

So if I update libzypp then it should correct the problem?

Urrr.

Yes!rotfl! We hope so.

I’m not using 11.0 now but microchip know his stuff.

I did the zypper update and also changed the update applet to libzypp.
Now it shows all availle updates and upgrades
