Repos to upgrade to a clean 11.3

Hi,

I’ve installed a 11.3 M7 64bits on my pc. I added a lot of repos from buildservice to have the latest kde version and so on. I did zypper dup a couple of times and now i want zypper again to have a clean GM. I removed all the repos except these:

Do you recommend me to add another repo to have a better experience? Can someone explain me why are so many KDE repos (Backports, community, etc) and which ones are for 11.3 and its KDE version? I want to have my desktop in “testing” like in debian that they have 3 modes: stable, testing and unstable.

PS. In my opinion this new opensuse version is the best opensuse ever, eveything works perfect except nouveau drivers, that I changed to NVIDIA propietary. Thanks a lot Opensuse people for the best distro ever!!!

Your repo list looks pretty good, but needs some tweaks.

What version of KDE do you have now? You should not be past 4.4.4, which is the officially supported version for openSUSE 11.3. If you wish to be back to proper 11.3 then you will downgrade from KDE 4.5 RC or whatever version you have installed now.

Additionally, the nvidia repository you have should be no good for 11.3. The kernel version is wrong. There should be a nvidia repo for 11.3 setup soon.

Ideally you would do a zypper dup to just the first three repos you have listed. Then deal with an upgrade with the Packman repo enabled.

As for the KDE repos, I would only add the “UpdatedApps” repo (Index of /repositories/KDE:/UpdatedApps/openSUSE_11.3). That is the simplest way to get updated KDE apps like Amarok, KOffice, Bangarang and Rekonq without dipping into pre-release versions.

You need to look at this thread. It will update and add the repos automaticlally.

whych, I think you forgot something on your thread…

ReferenceSeete:

  • I don’t know which version of KDE i have (now i’m working not at home) but maybe I installed kde 4.5rc, thanks for the advice on this point.
  • I installed NVIDIA the hard way, so I’don’t know why I didn’t erase the repo…
  • Thanks a lot for the KDE repo link, this is what I really wanted.

If I have already KDE 4.5RC installed, is there a “official” repository to maintain this version? I mean, if I have the KDE factory repository now I have KDE 4.5, but in the future 4.6, 4.7 and so on… I only want to have 4.5 installed…

I answer myself…

I found this thread on anouncements: WARNING To Users of KDE Factory Repositories! Here you cand find info on KDE repos…

Ivanjn, yes that post is the perfect answer regarding KDE 4.5.

I should say that Rekonq and Bangarang are not in the “UpdatedApps” repo they are in the KDE4 Community Repo.

That repo isn’t exactly beta testing, but it is ‘extra stuff, quality not guaranteed’. For me personally I’m interested in the development of Rekonq & Bangarang so I enable that repo. Use at your own risk.

Sorry, look at this link: 11.3 RC2 users can now upgrade to GM

ok, thanks a lot!!
