Replacing a Broadcomm BCM94313?

Hi,

I have an HP dm1-4125 which is fitted with the above. I understand that it is a combined 802.11x and bluethooth device.
I have no problems with the wlan but I have failed to get the BT adapter working. I don’t want to lose a USB port by filling it with a BT dongle.
Which incidentally, all that I have tried, work just fine - out of the box - so to speak.

So my question is this.
Can any of you folk suggest an alternative HALF-HIGHT mini PCIe combined wlan+BT device that will work with the drivers that are shipped with the standard openSUSE 12.1 distribution?

Best regards, Martin

Are you aware that the HP BIOS white-lists wifi devices? If you plug in one that
is not supported, the machine will refuse to boot until you remove it. Digging
out the supported list is not trivial.

I suggest that you buy a mini USB hub rather than a new PCIe card. That way you
can plug in your BT dongle without occupying a port. If you do not have too many
power-hungry devices, you could probably use a passive hub, but I suggest a
powered one. It can be used in passive mode, but you will have the extra power
available if/when you need it.

No I wasn’t! Very interesting. Thank you.
Is that why I see “Cautions…” alongside many wifi devices advertised on eBay, that say “Not for HP, DELL etc…”?

So, any tips on finding a driver for the bcm94313 to wake-up the bt gubbins?

You never stated what driver you are using now, thus I cannot comment on that
other than to say that if you are using wl, then you are pretty much out of
luck. for brcmsmac or b43, take up the issue on linux-wireless@vger.kernel.org.
