Okay!!thanks…Can u pls teach me to do it…??

no, i’m not a programmer so i couldn’t teach you how to do it…but, i
know anyone can download the YaST source and change those titles at
will, and then compile and use…

for me, i just find it easier to use what is there…

i mean (for example) today you want to change “Virtualization” to “AS
Xen”, but i ask if you decide to use the virturalization software
named VMbox will you then want to change “AS Xen” to “VMbox”, and then
someday (maybe) change “VMbox” to “VMWare”…

to me, it would be easier to leave it as the more generic and be done
with it…but, if you think it is worth the trouble and effort to
change the source you are FREE to do so…that is one of the wonderful
things about open source, the FREEdom it allows all…

but, be advised you will most likely have to go through the entire
process again when/if you update to v 11.2, .3 etc etc etc…

As said: it can all be done In the end all source code is available, so…

But why? Recently I saw a KDE menu, where the user had changed almost everything in the menu to the Windows equivalent. So XMMS was renamed to WinAmp, Writer to Word, even k3B was renamed to Nero. These days he’s posting about ‘linux not using proper names for programs’, in windows fora.
Accept that you’ve got another OS. I Bet you’re not looking for IE on a macbook either.
The structure and naming in Yast are the result of years of development, with lots of help from the community. Leave it as it is, it’s your tool to maintain your system, and it’s ready for almost anything you’ll need in the future.

No,I wont do it.I have been using linux for the past 6 months and i dont have Windows in my computer(Coz i dont prefer it).My purpose it different.I want to rename it for acedemic final year College project. It one of the activity i hv to do it to fullfill the project promises…Now,Knowing my purpose,I hope u will trust and help me…

WAIT! you expect US to teach you HOW to do a task REQUIRED for you to
complete your last year of college??

gimme a break man! THE reason they gave you that project was to FORCE
you to LEARN something…if we TELL how to do it, you will not LEARN a
thing…

dig in the books and stop CHEATING via the internet…

gimme the name of your college and instructor!!

and, THEN download the source code and FIGURE IT OUT!!!

“Multiple Personality” told you already, easy as one, two. three:

  1. download the source for YaST
  2. change it (that is, change ‘Virtualization’ to ‘AS Xen’, etc)
  3. compile it

Ok Thanks a lot,But sorry to bother furthur, but can u pls help me to do it(i mean…Can u tell me the web address hosting yast`s source…and also tell me what r the tools i need to compile it.)
Thanks again

Index of download.opensuse.org/

Now, which one could it be?

Ok, now i`m downloading the file "http://download.opensuse.org/source/distribution/11.1/repo/oss/suse/src/xen-3.3.1_18494_03-1.8.src.rpm"Is this the correct file i should Download…???Im not sure if im right…???
Thanks in advance

No, it’s not.

(Unless you changed your mind and want to start changing Xen now.)

ok pls tell me which file should i download and recomple(a link will be better)
thanks

Man, let me tell you one thing: this is not going to work. At least not this year. Just to think that a little search and replace, compile and that’s it. A linux distro is a complex integration of files and folders, dependencies and millions of lines of code. What do you know about licenses? Apparently nothing. What if you succeed and next thing you know you’re in prison for breaking licensing laws.
Even editing all the sources you’ve downloaded now, guarantees absolutely nothing if you do not know what you’re doing.
Who told you to do this. Are you sure this is what they want you to do?

Well,I`m just trying to learn from doing such things,so i dont think i will be committing a sins by doing so…

Question: do you have any programming experience?
Question: do you know about licenses?
Remark: a judge does not care about what you think, he’s there for judging whether you break the laws or not.
Question: why not write to the openSUSE board, or directly to Novell?
Remark: Maybe your project is of a kind that openSUSE of Novell is willing to cooperate on.

Question: Do you understand what happens if the next person wants the menu-item File to be FDSFSEHNBasd and Edit to be dsfhmbsd8f69 ? Do you understand what this is causing if you want your German speaking costudent to see Datei instead of File?

In the end, this should make clear, that you’re not going anywhere, but on a road back to individually compiled non-exchangable software.

Yes,i have some programming experience. But i thought open source gives me the freedom to change and recompile the codes…But any way pls correct me if i`m wrong…But truly i dont have any intention of breaking the Laws…My objective is to LEARN here.Hope u will understand and help me.

Open Source is not just open source. There’s GPL, LGPL, Creative Commons. Before you start something like creating a new distro from another one, you need to be aware of all this.
I’m a programmer, amongst other things, and I can tell you one thing: you’d better see that you get some kind of support from openSUSE or Novell. A quick search for ‘Yast lines of code’ shows that there’s over 400.000 lines of code. And since you do not know what to look for you’d have to read and understand quite a lot of that.
On the other hand: if you’re lucky you’ll find one file, containing all variable displayable textitems, and replacing one string by another would do the job. But you realy have to go to the developpers instead of using the forum
