removing kde installing gnome ?

I’m planning to replace kde with gnome so my plan is to visit Yast pattern view
check Gnome Desktopand Gnome Base System
then unchecking Kde4 Desktop and Kde base system
i’m seeking stability I know openSUSE has it but no with kde !
is this the right way to replace my desktop environment , I will not download the gnome iso and make a new installation

That may work but it may break other software that you have installed that may depend on part of KDE. So better to just install Gnome just don’t use KDE if you are unhappy with it

just to be sure it’s gnome 2.XXX not gnome shell 3 that comes with opensuse 11.4 ?

In addition to gogalthorp’s fine comments, there is no problem having multiple Desktops installed. It gives you an option to run say KDE applications like Amarok while using Gnome or the other way say using Banshee in KDE as an example. It never hurts to have a backup Desktop to run should your normal one fail to start for some reason.

Thank You,

Yes but you can install 3 if you want it.
