I’ve reached the point where I rarely need to boot into my physical WinXP install, which is a total mess right now as well … so I’ve decided that I want to completely remove it from my system, then create a virtual install of Vista Business Edition. However, I’m not quite sure how to do any of this … can someone please explain the process I’ll need to follow?
You might want to take a look at the many posts and howtos about VirtualBox. This is the keyword you’re looking for.
That yields nothing but a bunch of completely unrelated threads and articles … and the HowTo on the VirtualBox site does nothing to describe how it works on a linux-based system.
Some help with creating a runnable vm, please?

Install the VirtualBox package. You can then run VB and create a VM using the VB
GUI. This process sets up the disk and cpu parameters for the new virtual
machine. This is the equivalent of a machine with a hard disk with no useful
content. Do you know what to do with such a piece of hardware? If so, do the
same on the virtual hardware. In general, you would place the install disk for
the OS you want to load as an iso file in the virtual CD driver, or set the host
to pass through data from the read CD/DVD drive and boot.
Ok, I got it working now, thanks!
