remove libcaca0 zypper dup

Hello all. This is my first post to this forum, coming from arch/linux mint distros. The remove message is an attempt to upgrade from 11.3 to 11.4 on my acer laptop. My question is if it is safe to remove the package in question? I have seen extreme cases of package removal in my sidux/arch adventures. This looks like a normal removal due to package upgrading.

I hope I’m in the right forum posting this question. If not my apologies in advance.

It should be fine
Though post install I would look at re-installing it

Thing is the package it is installing to replace it is: libcaca
But that’s not showing as available in my 11.4 repos, so it begs the question as to what repos you have

Thanks caf4926. I miss to mention that my repos are all 11.3. I read somewhere that to upgrade i have to disable all 11.3 repos and enable/add 11.4. Strange that I still get updates even without doing so. What 11.4 repos are recommended to do so? Sorry I cant post my repo list as I’m away from my openSUSE laptop atm. But later on I will do so.

You know there is a guide here
SDB:System upgrade - openSUSE

Thanks for the good ol link. But it still begs the question why I get such amount of upgrades despite not changing repos. I reckon those upgrades apply only to 11.3?

And should I switch to 11.4 repos and do a zypper dup, I expect another set of upgrades different from 11.3? Of course the best way to know is to switch repos and check the output messages. Thats my intent later on when I access my opensuse box.

Just what do you want?

If you want to upgrade you should change the repos to 11.4 as shown in the guide.

zypper dup with your current repos ? why, what is the intention?

Sorry, I just thought you wanted to go from 11.3 > 11.4

Sorry for getting you confused. Yep it’s my bad, no sense at all of dist-upgrading to current repos. Thanks for keeping up with me caf4926

One comment more.

The install forum is more appropriate, I think.

This warning is very important. I notice later it bites:

You should have only three active repos (11.4): oss, non-oss, and update.
The rest must be disabled. Yes, this means later activating packman, it is
a bore, but it is soooooo much safer.

After your system is running properly, then add repos. Wait a week or a
month if need be.

And read the suggested wiki page.
