Remote x session from kdm login screen -- broken 12.3 KDM

Hi I am trying to start a remote login x session and have run into a problem, when I select the remote session from the login screen, the screen appears which allows me to select a host,
but at that point the keyboard freezes, and I am unable to use it at all even if i switch back to local login. I have to reboot my system to get the keyboard to function for logins again.

The keyboard does work if I switch to one of the terminal session, on the console.

Do I have a configuration Issue

clean new install of 12.3, no extra software installed.

It’s a bug, see here f.e.:

Unfortunately KDM is rather unmaintained since quite some time.
And apparently that won’t change either, because upstream KDE plans to switch to SDDM as default display manager for KDE5 AFAIK.

Btw, you don’t have to reboot to get your keyboard working again, just press Ctrl+Alt+Backspace twice to restart KDM.

If you need the remote functionality, maybe try some other display managers:
gdm, sddm, lightdm, lxdm spring to mind, but I don’t know which of them provides that functionality.
You can change the display manager in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager (you have to install it first if course…).

Thank you.

It seriously looks like people are beginning to forget the multi user nature of LINUX!

Well, you can still login/run programs via ssh, no need to have a full remote X session.
