Remote desktop / thin clients

I’m looking into solutions for providing remote linux desktops to my household that’s capable of performing like they were in front of a native computer. With several people in the house needing new computers I was wanting to build a nice beefy server and then just use something like cheap raspberry/s or chromebooks etc … as thin clients to connect to the single server and we can all have our own kde desktops. I’ve did this before but the ability to play videos and music at the client side was horrible and I tried several clients. The best one was nomachines client but trying to play things like youtube videos was really bad. Do any of you guys do this? Again, I’d like to have a single server that streams several desktops where each person can play video / audio etc like they were working natively. I don’t mind upgrading the wifi or potentially wiring some of the rooms if that’s what it takes but I’d prefer wireless.

Thanks!

I don’t think such a solution will provide a satisfactory multimedia experience. Given the cost of tablets and laptops these days, I don’t think the thin client model is really the best option for most (at least in a home network environment).

Of course there are lots of “How To’s” online should you wish to explore/implement desktop virtualization.
