Reading openSUSE Factory Release Notes
there is missing some statement if and how openSUSE-11.3 will be compatible running as dual-boot option in parallel with Win7.
Since Vista/Win7 it is critical to have the partitioning of your harddisk alignend 1Mib. Otherwise, if :
- using an unalignend extended partitioning scheme
- using some usb,camera format facilities from Win7
there will be data-loss: Win7 “repairs” automatically something not fitting
What does the windows release notes say about multi-boot with Linux?

They do mention to be not compatible to old partition schemes such as winXP somewhere…
I didn’t think you were actually going to imply you read all that M$ blurb…
I already installed 11.3 in a multi-boot with win7
It works just fine
Mind you I can’t really make complete sense of your earlier comments…
I tried Fedora 13 for a very brief time. Their partitioner added a 1 MB barrier on each side of a partition.
Did you provide it with a pre-prepared partition or leave it to it own?
I left it alone to partition. The “/” and “/home” were selected manually. I also had openSUSE 11.2 already installed. Fedora 13 was added after openSUSE.
Parted Magic was used to look at the partitions. This is how I discovered the 1 MB barrier.
Didn’t happen to me. But I had already done the partitioning and just pointed Fedora to where I wanted it.
I installed the 64-bit. In the partitioner, there should be a field to turn off the barrier:
barrier=0
