I got cartridge is low warning and after a couple of days refilled the the black cartridge (#56) for my HP officejet all-in-one printer.
The low warning is still there and when I try to print, it does not even try/use the black cartridge. I believe it is tracking the serial number of the cartridge (showing in the status of hplip manager).
I know the cartridge has ink, because I am able to scan/copy on the all-in-one and it does use the black.
I have tried to clean, align, and test using the hplip tools, but it has not worked.
Any ideas on how to erase the memory or have it retest the cartridge for ink ?
I have an HP all in one and haven’t changed the ink since i switched to opensuse so I don’t know if this works…
In case you haven’t tried this. One thing I did notice when you are on the supplies tab, right click on the printer on the left side and click on device refresh or refresh all.
thanks for the link to try to reset the memory.
I tried method 1 and method 6 … but it did not work.
With method one – when I taped the contact – it reported to check the cartridge and never printed the alignment page. I went ahead and taped the other contact and it said the same thing. THen I removed both and put it back in. It gave me a scare as the printer was stuck on checking cartridge, then after a couple of reboots… it did print an alignment page and first 2-3 scans were not successfull and then it said alignment complete.
However, after all that… when I plugged the computer back in… it still says low ink
I have two HP-7450 still working that use 56-black, 57-color and 58-photo cartridges.
Each cartridge has a circuit that count the number of times the ink jets are actuated, and estimate the remaining ink volume.
After I refill the cartridge, I can either:
use the tape method you tried, but it doesn’t always work - something to do with the printer having to print an alignment page after each tape is used - or the remaining tape glue impeding contact; or
keep two old/failed cartridges at hand. While refilling the good cartridge, install each failed cartridge in turn (turning the printer on and off each time), then put the good one back. The printer memory only hold the serial numbers (and estimated levels) of two cartridges. when you plug the third (refilled) its like a new cartridge.
Option 2 may not work for your printer model, it will depend on it’s cartridge S/N memory.
