I stumbled across one small problem, K3b borked totally my DVD+RW’s.
Now two of them are seen as CD-ROM’s (can’t overwrite or format them) and the third one “load’s” ages. They all are 4.8GB size now while the same still good DVD+RW says it is 4.4GB.
Is it possible somehow to overwrite the TOC to make the system see them as DVD+RW again or can i just throw them away now?
I tried wodim and various options to blank it, clean it and God knows what else.
The borked DVD’s are seen as DVD-RW in K3b (kde 4 version) but with size only 2 kB?? Track lenght is 2 kB and media ID unknown.
And how about k3b from kde3? k3b(kde4) is very, very new afaiu mandriva just finished porting it.
Hmmm, my guess is that it doesn’t matter how K3b from KDE 3 sees it as it’s just a frontend to some great CLI apps which i used.
dvd+rw-mediainfo from one DVD RW shows all the info and i can still write to this one but it is no longer so easy as it always bombs out when writing lead out (silly but when checking the md5sum the burned image is ok). The other one’s don’t work at all. And the size reported by numerous tools that it can’t read 10h settings while 0h is fine (i mean wodim, dvd+rw-mediainfo).
Sorry if it sounds rude but i’m just afriad i will kill my other DVD RW’s…
I was wondering if there is a tool that would write to the DVD no matter what other tools say, something like a RAW format ? Some sort of a low level disk format?

I think if you can replicate it with k3b you got a bug report perhaps. Not sure your going get round it.
Perhaps you could actually see what data it sees with a dd. Though I’m presuming this isn’t just coming to its end and we’re talking about new/newish dvds. I have to agree you would thought you could blank them…
Going to have to say it do you dual boot or vmware does MS software do the same?
Hmmm, i have an idea but i am not sure if this is possible, when you mentioned dd (low level tool? ), if i could make an image of the same dvd that still works and write it to the borked one exactly bit by bit then i could have a working DVD RW again?
I don’t dual boot but i remember that Nero couldn’t help (friend’s PC) and since i’m fighting with that for a long time (i was googling around in hope to find a “cure”) i’m not sure i could replicate that 
Out of my depth wouldn’t have a clue. Aren’t you always going to end up back with the cli tools and if there struggling now wouldn’t they still struggle?
Guess nothing to lose by trying.

Guess i’ll have to throw them to the bin. I hope nothing will happen to the other RW’s 
then i will be forced to file a BIG BUG report with some atom bombs included in the e-mail:)
dd uses some CLI tools that still see that DVD as 2 kB size so no luck this time.
I reckon if dd sees that then it is. My understanding is that is really low level, I would thought is working that out, not reading that.
But what can close a dvd as cd and make it unwritable(Shrug)?
Though reading back you seem to have them being seen as CD’s one way and DVD’s the other, is that K3B(kde3) vs K3B(kde4)?
Other tools report other things (read dvd+rw-mediainfo, wodim). Ultimately i can’t write anything to them
P.S. I must admit that k3b (kde 4 version) starts being pretty usable
I may have to have another look again soon. Was lack of k3b and amarok that made me look else where though kind of happy now where I’ve arrived.
Well from what i can see amarok is shaping up to be one of the best if not the best media players out there and k3b has reached alpha state so things look good for KDE 4.3
I think that with 4.3 everyone will start using KDE 4.3, that’s why (in my opinion) Gnome developers started thinking heavily about Gnome 3.0 (which will be more like an evolution than revolution in KDE )

I got one trustworthy DVD RW and i use only this one, i won’t cry if it will get borked
