Recommended Gigabyte Switches

So I’m looking for an advice on which gigabyte switches you would recommend? Looking for something relatively cheap, but still reliable.

This question is not directly Suse based, although my Suse server will be connected to this switch

The thing is that I’we been having some trouble at home with some cheap gigabyte Linksys switches. Various different speed problems, f.x. failing to connect at 1Gb/s, and “slow as snail” speeds when sending data through two switches.

Oh btw, I might add that I’m looing for a rather small switch, 5-8 ports preferably.

I’ve got this
one
and it runs great. I do believe it has a smaller 5 port
brother also.

I’ve got an 8port Linksys that I bought at Staples from their throw
away bin for $40USD (back then it would have been >$100)… I didn’t
think it would last long but I’ve been using it for more than 3 years
now. And yes… it’s got the world’s loudest fan on it

You can get them new for around $50 USD… but their the Cisco
Linksys’s… and I hear the reliability of those is NOT great.

Many products from Linksys used to work without problems before CISCO took over their business!!

Gig switches really show when you have alot of users with high network activity. If your only running 10 or 20 users with occasional network activity then its not for you.
Yes hard drives can limit the transfer speeds. Thats why most corporations use scsi drives to take advantage of the extra speed.
