pactl list short sinks returns:
54 auto_null PipeWire float32le 2ch 48000Hz SUSPENDED
any ideas? need audio for work.
can rollback but interested in solutions

ok had to roll back with snapper… work won’t wait
Posting cat /etc/os-release from the working configuration might help us check what changed since in the sound area.

With TW20260616 there are upgrades to alsa and alsa-ucm-conf that stand out as the perfect culprits.
You may lock those two packages and try upgrading again, if sound works we have something to investigate and possibly to report a bug.

@OrsoBruno unfortunately (to this shared interest) an unrelated video issue has prompted the switch from kernel-default to kernel-longterm. I don’t think I can help right now, and I hope you’re able to sort this without me.
The issue doesn’t reflect negatively on SUSE for what its worth (rather a net positive that i have choice re LTS and/or ‘bleeding edge’ kernels). Anyway best to you, and thank you for attempting to help.

The audio breakage is apparently linked to your HW, I cannot even reproduce that.
But are you saying that with kernel-longterm audio is OK even when you upgrade to the latest alsa or to the latest snapshot in general?

Ok so a zypper dup breaks audio no matter which kernel on latest snapshot. I hadn’t updated yet and I appreciate your patience with my mistake.
I’ve rolled back to 7.0.12-1-default with working audio, and 6.18.35-1-longterm still works for me too.
I’m going to lock alsa and alsa-ucm-conf, and report back on update to let you know if i can zypper dup and spin up with working audio.
hmm @OrsoBruno I locked those two packages, and updated via zypper dup and again KDE Audio Devices icon is greyed, and sinks are suspended.
sudo zypper locks returns the following

back on version 20260613, and audio is working fine.
Solved video issue (related to browser video acceleration toggle, not OS) and back on default kernel (7.0.12-1).

I am having a similar issue on an iMac 2017. After any kernel update I have to compile and install a kernel module by hand:
TW20260622 included new versions of pipewire and wireplumber that might (or might not) fix something. Did you already try that?
