Note those commands needed to be run in an xterm/konsole. I asked you to post any error messages that you may have obtained when running those commands. Did you get any ?
Further, give those commands a try also with root permissions in an xterm/konsole.
If you try that and it fails, then try forcing a re-install of your current kernel. The purpose there is to remove the possibility of a bad kernel install. Reboot after the kernel re-install before testing.
If after trying in a konsole/xterm with both regular user and with root permissions, and if a kernel forced re-install, together with trying again as a regular user and with root permission fails, then you are in bug reporting territory IMHO.
