Realtek alc5642 driver not present

I have a PC with “Realtek alc5642” sound card. However, no openSUSE distro detect it. Simply, Plasma shows “No audio”.

Fedora, Linux Mint and MXLinux does detect correctly sound card and enable audio.

I used in all cases a LIVE version.

What’s happening?

Create bug report.

It is unlikely that a codec from 2012 is not recognized, maybe “Plasma shows No Audio” is related to glitches associated with the recent update to Plasma 6.
See if any of the threads referenced here

looks similar to what you witness.
Maybe looking in the Plasma Audio settings you can see a button allowing to choose a “new device” that actually links to your codec.

Might be as simple as this

The openSUSE Live medias does not contain all drivers. This is clearly explained and written on the download page:

Please be aware of the following limitations of the live images:

  • They should not be used to install or upgrade. Please use the installation media instead
  • They have a limited package and driver selection, so cannot be considered an accurate reflection as to whether the distribution will work on your hardware or not
  • Kernel and initrd can’t be updated, so they shouldn’t be used as a persistent installation

I would guess that ancient drivers (>10 years) are not part of the limited package set of the live media.
