Realtec Gigabit Networkcard coming up and down permanently ...

Dear Forum,

I have an old Suse 10.3 installation. With the build in Networkdevice I never had problems. Now I installed a Gigabit Realtec (PCI). If I startup the mashine Im not able to connect via Network. The Messages output gives me every 2 seconds:

Oct 11 14:15:48 linux-8bwf kernel: r8169: eth2: link down
Oct 11 14:15:50 linux-8bwf kernel: r8169: eth2: link up
Oct 11 14:15:51 linux-8bwf kernel: r8169: eth2: link down
Oct 11 14:15:53 linux-8bwf kernel: r8169: eth2: link up

A work around is to start yast, deinstall the network card - quit yast. Restart yast, configure the detected device again and quit yast. Than its working.

Does anyone know how to fix this ?

thanks für help,

filip

10.3 is terribly outdated, I could imagine the driver included doesn’t handle the NIC well.

Consider upgrading to a supported version of openSUSE.
