I understand Realplayer has been dropped from OpenSuse 11.1 and is no longer available in the repositories.
I have tried downloading the rpm package from the Real website but cannot get it to install.
Using Yast - it gives me the message
“Error - following packages haven’t been found on the medium - Realplayer”
What is with this? I used the Real rpm to access Yast so of course the package is on the medium.
Anybody know where I can get a rpm package compiled specifically for Opensuse 11.1?
Found some instructions on how to install the .bin file here
How to install and Configure Real player in OpenSuse | SUSE & openSUSE
installation seems to go perfectly following the instructions but still Realplayer cannot be loaded or even found in the kmenu.
I tried installing Realplayer Gold 11.
Gonna try my luck with an older version so will report back
Did you try launching from the CLI?
realplay
or
whereis realplay
Yes, found the directory I installed it to and also launched the binary file from there.
Still couldn’t quite get it to integrate with my system fully though and allow smplayer access to its codecs.
Solved my head scratching by installing the rpm from the Opensuse 11.0 nonoss repository.
Everything working as it should (although realplayer one version back - can’t imagine it will matter much).
