I regret that I have spent a couple years in the Debian world. But now I am in OpenSuse, so hopefully my future will be shining and beautiful.
However, I am addicted to the Sylpheed mail client and I can’t get it working in 11.1.
Aside: I started by installing 11.2, but there are too many bugs with Gnome 2.8.0. I tried several other distros before OpenSuse, all with Gnome 2.8.0, and each one caused me grief. Rather than try to install an older Gnome on 11.2, I wiped out 11.2 and installed 11.1.
When I had 11.2 the YaSt > Software Management appication listed Sylpheed and I was able to install it with a mouse click. But in 11.1 Software Management does not list it.
I found this web page which suggested how to install Sylpheed:
Install claws-mail: zypper in claws-mail
This is a fork of sylpheed. Copy your old ~/.sylpheed-2.0 directory into your home directory on openSUSE. The first time you start claws-mail, it will find and import your sylpheed profile. It works the same, except for some gtk classes which might differ.
I have sylpheed 2.6 (32 and 64 bit) for 11.1. I don’t remember if I converted it from a deb package, if I got it from somewehre or if I compiled it myself.
I add sometimes missing packages to openSUSE, but I’m not serious enough about that to organize a repo.
I just uploaded the rpms for you. You can get them here if you trust me : sylpheed-2.6.0-2.i586.rpm sylpheed-2.6.0-2.x86_64.rpm
Otherwise you could try to convert the Ubuntu .deb to an rpm with alien. That would be version 2.7.1.
I’m missing sylpheed on 11.2 too. The 11.1 rpm doesn’t work. I don’t know if I’m going to compile it. I thought it would be easier to use claws-mail under openSUSE, because it’s available and probably updates will follow. However I prefer sylpheed too.
