Re: Not Readng / Copying CD...

I am facing a problem after upgrading to KDE 4.2.1 from KDE 4.1 OS openSUSE 11.1.

When i insert the CD in the my DVD drive (CD Writer - DVD Rom - Samsung) the device notifier does not show my or read the cd.

When i tried to copy a CD i got the error & debugging message as

K3b Version: 1.0.5

KDE Version: 3.5.10 “release 21.9”
QT Version: 3.3.8b

SAMSUNG CDRW/DVD SM-353N TA01 (/dev/sr0, ) [CD-R, CD-RW, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM] [Error] [SAO, TAO, RAW, SAO/R96P, SAO/R96R, RAW/R16, RAW/R96P, RAW/R96R]

The Error Message was

K3b was unable to mount Medium computer data CD-Rom in device SAMSUNG CDRw/DVD SM-353N

When i had installed openSUSE 11.1 with KDE 4.1 i was able to read & write CDs.

Kindly let me know how to do ?

Distribution: openSUSE 11.1

Open Software Management and filter by repo
select Packman and find k3b and k3b-codecs and click the check box

If you don’t have Packman
add it
Additional YaST Package Repositories - openSUSE

Now try

N.B. It might worth doing update all unconditionally in Packman

I did’nt find the packman in the list.

Now how do i add packman in the repo, i clicked on the link given by you, which shows list of countries in openSUSE 11.1, when i click on US link it took me to next page showing list of directoeries & files.

Pl. let me know in details as i have just started last month using linux, very new, but i m enjoying …

Open yast software repositories
In the link I gave you, right click copy link location one of the links near to your location in the world
Paste that in the url section of the add repo and call it Packman

Now do what I said earlier.

Some more info
Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide - openSUSE Forums

Flash, k3b, Amarok - Install Guide - openSUSE Forums

I did as you told, but still i am facing the same problem.

First of all the the Systems is not reading the CD or the DVD, if i insert a disc the device notifier does not notify.

I have a screen shot of k3b just go through the same pl.

You said you upgraded from 4.1.3 to 4.2.1
That screen looks like 4.1.3

Though the kde4 ver. makes no odds

Do this in a terminal

zypper lr

post result

Its KDE 4.2.1 for sure.

c2222@linux-nc1u:~> zypper lr
