There are still updates on 10.3 mirrors, so if you (as you should)
have a 10.3 DVD you could still install software. 10.3 is 2 years old.
You could copy rpm’s from a local copy of a disk, and install those +
dependencies by hand (use rpm --checksig & then rpm -Uvh *.rpm), then
run updates.
But your security support has expired, you should upgrade or switch to
SLED/SLES urgently.
A few days ago i had a power glitch and my computer would not boot
from HD any more. I must have reinstalled GRUB 15 times trying to get
my old workhorse production install going again. <and it still
doesn’t>
Two different 10.3 install DVDs couldn’t fix it.
SuperGrubDisk couldn’t fix it.
Clonezilla-SysRescCD couldn’t fix it.
It wouldn’t boot XP either.
I finally used an install DVD and overwrote an old Ubuntu that i
wasn’t using. Then EEK! There was no repository at OpenSuse any more
for the existing security updates. There was no ati repository to get
my video card working right (FOSS radeon drivers are gone as well). No
hook to restore gEDA either. Gack. I am VERY reluctant to consider
upgrading a system that i can not verify is in working condition.
Well i finally got it working, using an ugly kluge. Best of all, it
was updated just before the repos went away.
But i an a kde type, and kde4 is not quite ready for prime time yet.
Can i install 11.2 with kde 3.5? If not, i will cruise with my
working 10.3 and an 11.1 with kde 3.5.
BTW is there a tool to actually test the partition table/MBR section
of a HD?
11.2 has KDE 3.5 packages which can be found here -> KDE3
This is listed in the KDE repositories liston the Opensuse website
So go ahead and install 11.2. You should then be able to change it to KDE 3 altho I am not the best person to tell you how
11.1 has the advantage that the KDE 3.5 10 packages are available on the installation DVD. To have a newer kernel and the advantages of a faster system with ext4 use 11.2. The choice is yours. I would ask you to give KDE 4.3.x a chance since it works well. You can also set your desktop to be used as a desktop like in 3.5.10. It’s much better than 4.1.3 that came with 11.1.

As i said, i got my old system running, undamaged. Just the same I
can wait for KDE 4 to meet my requirements, it will only be a few
months. Then i migrate to a newer machine as well.
