I have recently installed Leap RC1 x64 and overall I’m very impressed with the stability etc. Now my only gripe is that Amarok randomly stops during playback and cannot play another song without relaunching it. I am using Plasma 5, mainly FLAC, a very large music library and an external Cambridge Audio DAC. The sound quality itself is much better than I was getting with 13.2, so that is awesome. I have installed Rhythmbox and there are no issues whatsoever so I can’t see it being a codec problem…
Has anyone else noticed this?? Obviously I don’t have the Packman repository yet and this usually solves Amarok problems but it’s odd that Rhythmbox works so well Any pointers or do you think this is a bug that I should raise?
Exactly my situation, Amarok was ok, and still is after a massive zypper dup from Beta1 with latest leap reos but with the sle12 packman repos disabled. There was much vendor change. I was somewhat surprised to see a significant number of unmaintained multimedia packages remaining after that type of upgrade. I guess that was probably due to dependency chains.
I will probably do a clean install after 4th november GA when everything’s had a chance to settle.
I hadn’t realised that I already have Leap after that update. So the issue is actually with leap; at least with my setup. Maybe I will do a fresh install after the 4th but my understanding of zypper is that shouldn’t be necessary…
I can’t find the option to remove RC1 title from this post… from looking at the forum help you have only 10 minutes to edit… oh well.
Anyway, I have noticed today that Packman has been added. So I added it and switched all software over to the apps in that repo. On doing this I noticed something else immediately; the sound quality from Rhythmbox is far superior to that from Amarok. It was such a difference that I have gone back to Rhythmbox although I prefer the way Amarok works… Do they use radically different backends or is this down to cleaner code …
Slightly bewildered now… but enjoying the sound quality all the same

Amarok can use gstreamer or VLC backends (gstreamer seems to be default on openSUSE). You should find answer in Rythmbox’s help for example, possibly gstreamer, but Ive never used it. Check its dependencies via YaST or zypper.
Rhythmbox uses gstreamer too, so that can’t be it Could it be the way pulseaudio interacts with the two apps? I must admit to finding sound a bit of a black art on computers (not just Linux) Still as I said Rhythmbox does sound very good and possibly makes the best sound out of any software I’ve ever tried. Shame it’s not kde though
