Rawtherapee released a new version - 5.13 - some 3 months ago and there has been no corresponding update to the package available in tumbleweed.
It is a significant upgrade, there a new functions available which 5.12 users cannot access. There have been patches applied to the existing 5.12 package but no move to 5.13.
I am subscribed to the Graphics repo and use Tumbleweed precisely so that I can use the latest versions of software like Krita and RT. This is the first time that RT has not been promptly updated.
I’d like to know why this is the case, and in a general way understand a bit more about packages and software updating.
The upstream source is somewhat inconsitent. On their homepage you can download 5.13 as latest version, but in the source directory 5.12 is the latest.
Additionally, acording to the changelog, a change to the specfile is required, as rawtherapee want’s to download files whilst building. This is forbidden/impossible in the build infrastructure.
So the maintainers did not have time/energy/joy to update it yet. If you want to speed up the process, branch the package, fix it and make a SR.
@myswtest & @ikanotheokara - I am aware of both flatpak and appimage (and find myself forced to use the latter). They are considerably slower than an installed package. Also it’s a faf to migrate preferences and profiles to them.
