2 weeks ago, I have a new laptop (DELL XPS L502X). I’ve installed OpenSuse 11.4 64 bits.
Almost everything works great, except for one issue:
Sometimes (Not always) when I start (or restart) my laptop after the GRUB, my screen turns to black, and all I can do is to manually shut it down.
I guess the problem is about the graphic card. I read that Nvidia cards with Optimous technology has no support for linux. One solution I found was to install hybrid drivers, so I installed “Bumbleblee” according to these instructions. Basically added this repository and installed the software with Yast. Run this commands:
To configure Bumbleblee…
bumbleblee-configuration
Then, try disabling the card, reboot, but it didn’t work.
bumbleblee-disablecard
So, I tried enabling the card, reboot, it didn’t work as well.
Ok, so I typed it on the options and It does boot, but the screen resolution reduces to 1024x768 when it should be 1366x768.
Also, the desktop effect appears disabled.
but if you get stuck on “I read that Nvidia cards with Optimous
technology has no support for linux.” again i’m afraid there is not much
to do but wait for nvidia to produce a linux driver for you…[or release
their close held secrets so an open source driver can be written…]
