Are you attempting to use Linux without a Graphical User Interface (GUI)?

  • If you are using a graphical Desktop Environment (DE), which Desktop are you using?
    KDE Plasma?
    GNOME?
    Something else?

KDE plasma, sorry i’m soo noob and i don’t know what’s important.

Please post:

Goto Yast—System----Network-connections----global Options------and switch in the settings for the Network from wicked to network manager

I have no Network-connections option, do you mean Network Settings? If so, when i open this option a message apears:

Warning
Network is currently handled by Network Manager or completly disabled. YaST is unable to cofigure som options.

When i go to Global options the network Setup Method is already on NetworkManager Service.

Thanks for all your help guys.

Then, you’re already using the Network Manager.

Please check the KDE Plasma Network Manager Plasmoid – in the System Settings tray.

  • Take a note of all your network settings.

Then, with a Super-User mode Konsole window, move all the files located in the directory ‘/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/’ to a temporary directory located in the home directory of the user “root” – the home directory of the user “root” is ‘/root/’.

Reboot.

Login to your KDE Plasma session and set up the Network Manager connections again.

Hi
Also check it’s not soft/hard blocked…

For example

rfkill

ID TYPE DEVICE SOFT HARD
0 wlan hp-wifi blocked blocked
1 wlan phy0 blocked blocked

Wifi off on this system…

Hey, thanks fou you help but I’m a new user of Linux and don’t know how to check Plasmoid or enter Super-User mode Konsole, could you explain me the steps?

Also i tried tho chek if it is hard bloked by** /usr/sbin/rfkill **and konsole says No such file or directory…

Hi
Likely need to install…

zypper in rfkill

When i try to install using **sudo zypper in rfkill **an error aperas:

Nothing to do.

Then, with a Super-User mode Konsole window, move all the files located in the directory ‘/etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/’ to a temporary directory located in the home directory of the user “root” – the home directory of the user “root” is ‘/root/’.

There is no files in such directory.

As an update, I tried to connect my laptop via Ethernet and was impossible as well, the machine dose detect the cable but doesn’t connect. I have no internet so may be there are some steps I cant perform.

Thanks you all.

The documentation for the KDE Plasma Desktop is here – <https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/kde-workspace/plasma-desktop/using-kapp.html#default-plasma-desktop>.

Back to the KDE Plasma Desktop –

  • Note the area number 4 – the “System Tray”.

Within the System Tray, there’s a Plasmoid with a name and description indicating that, it’s the Plasmoid which the user may use to manage the machine’s network interfaces and especially, the WLAN (WiFi) access points …

  • Please note that, the “secrets” needed to access any given WLAN access point are normally stored in a “Wallet” – for KDE Plasma, “KWallet” – the documentation is here: <https://docs.kde.org/stable5/en/kdeutils/kwallet5/index.html>.
  • Note that, if the Wallet is to open automatically on login, the a wallet named “kdewallet” which uses Blowfish encryption and, has a password which is the same as the user’s login password, has to be used to store the WLAN “secrets”. Assuming that, a KDE Wallet named “kdewallet” has been set up and is acitve when the WLAN access point is set up, the “secrets” will be stored automatically in the wallet …

The wallet settings are set up via the “System Settings” which is usually available via the “Favorites” in the “Application Launcher” – item number 1 (program starter) in the KDE Plasma Desktop description.

The “Application Launcher” (program starter) has a section named “Applications” and, within that area there’s an area named “System” (“mouse over” is usually more than sufficient to select this area) and, within that area there’s an application named “Super-User mode Konsole” – click it and, enter the password of the user “root” at the prompt.

  • Alternatively, simply hit “Alt-Space Bar
” (Hold down the “Alt” key and hit the space bar) and begin typing “Konsole” – usually the first few characters are sufficient …*=2]This is called “auto-completion” – automatic completion of what I want to begin doing exactly now …

Welcome to beginning to doing things the UNIX® way – as opposed to the way a certain entity based in the swamps of the West Coast of the North American continent believes the world should do things …

If you are not connected to the Internet then, you cannot download items from a remote repository which is connected to the Internet …

  • On the other hand, if you’re not connected to the Internet, how are you entering text into this Forum? >:)

Well ‘‘Kdwallet’’ doesn’t show up when I try to connect to a wifi network or I boot the system, as well I tried to open the Wallet Manager and it doesn’t open.

I’m writing here throw my other computer xD.
Thanks for your patience.

KDE Plasma → System Settings → Personalization → Account Details → KDE Wallet –

  • Has the wallet “kdewallet” been created?
  • Is the KDE Password system activated?
  • Is the standard password wallet “kdewallet”?
  • Can you open the Wallet Manager via the System Settings window?

After cheking I think all the answers are yes, but when i did the set up of the ‘‘kwallet’’ I set up a None pass, just doing enter when the system asked me for a pass.

Okey, I went to the university and the computer have connected to the wireless network for maybe 2min, I could open my mail and charge up the youtube page. So the computer is able to connect but sothing it’s wrong on the configuration.
All really wierd.

Ples some heelp.

That’s also OK …

Will this help with the connectivity problem?
