Radeon Opensource issue

I updated to the latest version found here:

Index of /repositories/X11:/XOrg/openSUSE_11.2

Im using radeon opensource driver at the moment, but when doing glxinfo i get this:

Is there any way of going back to Xserver 1.8.0 ? As it seems 1.9.0 may be causing the troubles, and denying me the option of Catalysts.

Thanks

Ok, i got the glx to work, it was just some packages from the repository which were not working, and got un-updated by its maker.

Issue now is, can i go back to 1.8.0 ?

Remove the repo you added and look for all the X11 packages, they’ll be showing red in software manager
Just click on the check box and it will update them back.
You may have to ignore error messages until you have them all checked.

You can always check your install log to see what packages were added at that time /var/log/zypp/history

But that will bring me back to Server 1.6.5, bit too old :frowning:

So you mean there was an update in the repo you added.
No way of rolling back unless you can find a repo with the version you want.

Theres only 1 repository available, but when i press on “switch packages to this repository”, i get a message saying “keep old xorg server or delete xorg-x11-driver-video”.

As im going to use catalyst, would it matter if i delete driver-video?

Sorry but you lost me.
You are using the switch on what repo now?

/repositories/home:/Freespacer:/X11:/XOrg75/openSUSE_11.2/

Which has server 1.9.0 but its incompatible with the xorg-x11-driver-video files.

There really has to be something substantially wrong with the OOS/Updates packages to be going down the road you are.

So it seems, and now it got worse. I disabled any X11 repositories, and just changed to the standard opensuse 11.2 version. When starting the pc, i get the typical bar loading up and then it throws me out to command line :frowning:

Ill start downloading 11.3 right away, as this seems a dead end, sadly.

My last option was addind the XOrg repository for 11.2 through command line yast, but when launching Yast update module, i get

UI Syntax Error
Couldn’t load plug-in ncurses_pkg
Check the log file!

Remember to check here if you have trouble
openSUSE Graphic Card Practical Theory Guide for Users

Yes, i did.

Tried all methods possible, fbdev, vesa, radeon.

Its ovbiously something wrong with Xserver, would a suse 11.2 dvd help me fix it? As i cant install any packages through Yast

You could try a level 3 boot, login as user and become su -
Then do:

mv /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.bak

Then

sax -r

This force a creation of a new xorg.conf (your existing one has been renamed)

or did you already try this?

I did Xorg -configure, and moved this new xorg.conf file to /etc/X11

Could i download simply those packages that i rolled back, put them on a pendrive and install them ?

Its just:

xorg-X11-server
xorg-X11-driver-video

So are you using 11.3 now or what?

Im actually updating from 11.2 to 11.3 at this precise moment.

It’s just we were working on 11.2 install and then you mentioned a command used in 11.3

Please tell me you are doing a fresh install (keeping /home is fine if you need to)

Yes, i mentioned “Xorg -configure”, because when using the Xorg repository, SaX2 tools arent there anymore, just as with 11.3.

And i did the update option from the 11.3 DVD, working as it should now
Posting from my main pc again yiiiiiiiiihaa

Ty

I really am pleased it worked out for you.
